Your SSW Journey: A Step-by-Step Flow
The SSW program is designed to connect skilled individuals with Japanese industries in need. Here’s a general overview of the process:
- For Individuals: This initial stage requires you to prove your vocational skills and Japanese language ability. This is typically done by passing specific industry-based skills proficiency tests and Japanese language proficiency tests (like JLPT N4/N3 or JFT-Basic).
- For TITP Completers: If you have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (Type 2 or 3) in a relevant field, you may be exempt from these tests, streamlining your qualification.
- For Individuals: Once qualified, we assist in connecting you with suitable Japanese host companies in one of the 12 designated SSW industries. This involves preparing your resume, facilitating interviews, and securing a job offer.
- For Companies: We match you with pre-qualified, skilled candidates whose abilities and language proficiency meet your specific hiring needs, simplifying your recruitment process.
After receiving a job offer, the formal immigration process begins. YS Support Cooperative meticulously assists with preparing and submitting all necessary documents for your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and subsequent SSW visa application to the Japanese Immigration Services Agency.
Once your visa is approved, we provide essential pre-departure guidance, covering travel arrangements and what to expect upon arrival. Upon entering Japan, you’ll complete immigration procedures and be greeted by representatives from your host company or our support staff.
During your first few days in Japan, essential administrative steps are crucial. Our team assists with vital registrations, including your residence registration at the local municipal office, enrollment in National Health Insurance, and opening a Japanese bank account for your salary.
You will commence your work directly with your host company. YS Support Cooperative remains a continuous point of contact, providing ongoing support throughout your employment period. We ensure your working conditions are compliant and address any concerns you may have, fostering a stable and productive environment.
For SSW Type 1 visa holders, the visa needs to be renewed annually (up to 5 years). We assist with the renewal process. If you qualify and wish to pursue SSW Type 2, or other long-term visas, we provide guidance and support for these status changes.
For SSW Type 1, after up to 5 years, you may transition to SSW Type 2 (if eligible in specific sectors), change to another visa type, or return to your home country. For SSW Type 2, the visa is renewable indefinitely, offering a pathway to permanent residency and allowing family reunification.
