Embarking on the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) is a significant journey, whether you are an individual seeking to gain skills in Japan or a company preparing to welcome international talent. Understanding the entire process, from initial inquiry to program completion, is essential for a smooth and successful experience.

At YS Support Cooperative, we are dedicated to making every stage of the TITP clear and manageable. This guide outlines the typical steps involved in the program, illustrating how we provide support at each crucial point.

Your TITP Journey: A Step-by-Step Flow

The TITP is a structured program designed to facilitate skill transfer and human resource development. Here’s a general overview of the process:

  • For Companies: Your journey begins with a detailed discussion with YS Support Cooperative. We’ll explain the TITP system, assess your needs, and guide you through the initial application process to become an approved host organization.
  • For Interns: We assess your qualifications and aspirations, guiding you through the initial application and readiness assessment for the program.
  • For Companies: We collaborate with reputable local sending organizations to identify suitable candidates. You’ll participate in a selection process that often includes document screening, practical skill tests, and final interviews (typically conducted with our support and interpreters).
  • For Interns: We connect you with potential Japanese host companies that align with your skill set and training goals, preparing you thoroughly for skill evaluations and interviews.

Once selected, interns undergo essential training in their home country. This education typically covers basic Japanese language skills, an introduction to Japanese culture and customs, and vital lifestyle guidance, all designed to prepare you for your new life abroad.

Our team meticulously handles the application for your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and visa procedures. After approval, we assist with your departure preparations, ensuring a smooth and compliant entry into Japan. Upon arrival, you’ll be met by representatives from your Supervising Organization or Host Company.

Upon arrival, interns participate in mandatory initial training in Japan (approximately one month, 160 hours or more). This intensive phase includes practical Japanese language education by specialized teachers, essential safety guidance from local police, and education on Japanese labor standards laws by experts, aiding rapid adaptation.

Following initial training, interns are officially assigned to their respective host companies as technical intern trainees. YS Support Cooperative staff often accompanies interns to their new workplace, providing initial support to ensure a smooth start to their on-the-job training.

Approximately one year after entering Japan, interns must undergo a mandatory technical proficiency test. Passing this test is crucial for updating your visa status and progressing to Technical Intern Training No. 2 (for your 2nd and 3rd years) and potentially No. 3 (for your 4th and 5th years), allowing you to further enhance your skills.

After successfully completing the technical intern training period, trainees return to their home countries. YS Support Cooperative assists with necessary departure documents, including support for pension refund requests, and may offer follow-up on your activities after your return.
